UBC-CODE Program
UBC-CODE (Compliant Openings, Doors, and Egress) is a specialized training initiative developed by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC). The program is designed to enhance the knowledge and technical expertise of UBC Members and their signatory contractors in door safety, promoting the highest standards in fire and life safety compliance.
Focusing on the correct installation, maintenance, and inspection of fire-rated and life safety doors, UBC-CODE ensures full alignment with the latest codes, standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Comprehensive, Tiered Training
UBC-CODE features a four-tier training structure that combines classroom learning with hands-on experience. UBC Members gain a deep understanding of compliant openings while developing the practical skills needed to apply safety standards in the field. Optional upgrade courses are also available for members looking to broaden their qualifications or specialize further.

Commercial Hardware
(40 Hours)
Designed for newer UBC Members or those with limited experience, this course covers the fundamentals of door and hardware installation. Participants will learn to identify system components and apply industry best practices in the field.
Door Hardware 2
(40 Hours)
An advanced course that leads to a Door Inspector Qualification, and satisfies the NFPA 80 Qualified Person definition. UBC Members will learn how to locate, interpret, and apply relevant state and local codes, and gain the skills to confidently inspect and support compliance for fire and life safety doors.
Door Safety Inspector (DSI) Certification
(40 Hours)
This in-depth, third-party certification trains UBC Members in fire door assembly inspection procedures. The course emphasizes codes and standards, is fully curriculum-based, and prepares participants to meet and exceed—NFPA 80, 101, and 105 requirements.
Upgrade Classes

Upgrade classes are continually updated to reflect the latest changes in local, state, and federal regulations, along with new technologies and evolving industry practices. These targeted sessions ensure members remain sharp, competitive, and ready for what's next.
