About the role
• Teach Carpenter apprenticeship classes and occasional skill-advancement training.
• Minimum of 10 years of Commercial Carpentry field experience required; supervision experience is a plus.
• Welding experience is beneficial but not required.
• Teaching/training experience is helpful; we will support onboarding and job shadowing during a planned instructor retirement transition.
• Travel is required to support Greater Wisconsin training facilities (Kaukauna, La Crosse, and Mosinee).

Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
• Mentor and guide apprentices through training toward journey-level competency.
• Deliver instruction using adult learning principles in classroom and hands-on lab settings.
• Prepare for each class and teach using the UBC curriculum and training standards.
• Evaluate performance, assign grades, complete progress reports, and submit required documentation.
• Maintain and monitor tools, equipment, and inventory used in classes.
• Coordinate with the Training Coordinator to order supplies, tools, and curriculum on schedule.
• Support periodic building/facility maintenance at training centers as needed.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and competence using digital technology.
• Flexibility to meet the needs of the Training Director, the Council, and signatory contractors (including travel).

Education & credentials
• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Completion of a Carpenter Apprenticeship Program.

Working conditions & travel
• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Regular travel throughout Wisconsin (Madison, Kaukauna, La Crosse, and Mosinee).
• Periodic travel to the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas for instructor development and adult learning training.
