About the role
• Teach apprenticeship and occasional upgrade classes, emphasizing carpenter/piledriver and welding instruction.
• Minimum 10 years of Heavy Highway field experience required; supervision experience preferred.
• Welding experience required, with a strong interest in teaching welding skills.
• Teaching or training experience is helpful; onboarding and job shadowing will support the retirement transition.
• Travel is required to support training centers in Madison, Kaukauna, La Crosse, and Mosinee.

Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
• Mentor apprentices toward journey-level competency.
• Deliver instruction in classroom and hands-on lab settings using adult learning principles.
• Prepare for each class and teach using UBC curriculum and training standards.
• Evaluate performance, assign grades, complete progress reports, and submit required documentation.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory used in classes.
• Coordinate with the Training Coordinator to order supplies, tools, and curriculum on schedule.
• Support training center and facility maintenance as needed.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online tools.
• Flexibility to meet the needs of the Training Director, the Council, and signatory contractors, including travel.
Education & credentials
• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Completion of a Carpenter Apprenticeship Program.

Working conditions & travel
• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods and lift to 50 pounds.
• Regular travel throughout Wisconsin (Madison, Kaukauna, La Crosse, and Mosinee).
• Periodic travel to the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas for instructor development and adult learning training.
